I've always had a thing for candles! I don't know what it is, but whenever I light a candle I feel immediately relaxed! When buying candles, I have never even thought to look and see what wax the candle is made from. But now that I've decided to venture into the candle industry, I have learned just how important it is to have a healthy candle base.
Most candles are comprised of paraffin wax. Why? Because it is a very inexpensive ingredient. Not a problem, right? WRONG! We chose to use 100% soy wax in all of our candles. A few reasons are below:
- Soy is better for your health! Okay, so now you're telling me that candles can be harmful to my health? Seriously? YES, unfortunately, they can be. When paraffin candles burn, they release a soot that contains harmful chemicals and carcinogens (toluene, benzene and naphthalene, just to name a few). Soy soot, however, does not contain any chemicals (it also produces 90% less soot, making for a cleaner burn and a prettier candle)!
- Soy burns longer! Soy candles have a much slower burn that paraffin candles, making the higher price tag more justifiable. They actually burn twice as long, so you're usually saving money when purchasing a soy candle.
- Soy is sustainable! Soy is a renewable resource, and is also produced by American farmers (whoo, go USA)! Paraffin, however, is made from the residue that is leftover during oil refining. Paraffin is certainly not a renewable resource. Beeswax is another great candle wax, but we chose soy, as soy is vegan!
Who would've thought candles would be this complicated? Glambitious has taken the guess-work away and has created a 100% soy candle, which is healthy! Shop Glambitious' candles here.
